It may be used on its own, or sometimes given together with certain other medicines as part of combination chemotherapy.

What is the composition of PEG-asparaginase?

Pegaspargase is a conjugate of monomethoxypolyethylene glycol (mPEG) and L-asparaginase (L-asparagine amidohydrolase), an asparagine-specific enzyme that converts L-asparagine into aspartic acid and ammonia. Asparagine is an amino acid that is vital for cell survival.
Asparaginase is usually given in one of two ways which will be specified in your child's treatment protocol:

By injection into a muscle (intramuscularly or IM).
By injection into a vein (intravenously or IV) through a cannula, central venous catheter or implantable port.
